While the major focus of a camp like SDSC is sport specific instruction and education, we pride ourselves on maintaining a high level of character development as well as teaching in a way that incorporates a great degree of fun. Yesterday, we had an instructional session on skates, an alternate training session on bikes, and a playful evening on the slip and slide. Today, we had a great instructional session this morning with a focus on balance, an alternate training session this afternoon back on skates in the skate park where the campers were able to practice and improve their balance as well as their courage, and tonight we hit the diving board and water slide at The Swimming Hole.
While the kids were focusing on their jumps, cannon balls, flips, and slides, I was pleased that their bodies were getting great recovery at the same time. Water sessions are fantastic alternates to workouts and aid in recovery due to many factors, but mainly its the slower movement under water and the weightlessness that gives their muscles and bones a break as they continue length of motion. The only thing better tonight would have been if the water was COLDER to aid in recovery, but we'll get in the river tomorrow and make up for it.
A hike to the top of Mount Mansfield awaits us in the morning and a dip at Bingham falls for the afternoon. The kids are working hard and learning a lot. Great start to the week.
Thanks, Danny
