We awoke to a beautiful morning with sunny skies and a slight breeze, pretty much perfect weather for hiking. The hike up Mount Mansfield is one of our favorite activities of the week, it provides the campers with a different type of session that combines all the areas we focus on during our sessions: balance, agility, speed, and explosion. It also offers many different "summits" as I like to say so each group has a goal of where they will reach, all the of them with spectacular views.
The hike is challenging, and in parts steep, but the campers did a great job with applying everything we have worked on and talked about while at camp. The older groups were able to reach the very top of the mountain, and enjoyed amazing views of Stowe valley. While the younger groups worked hard and reached some pretty amazing views as well.
Danny took the older campers and really challenged them to work hard, and they pushed themselves and turned many of the flatter sections of the hike into a trail run. Fun was had by all and the experience and sense of accomplishment everyone got from reaching their own "Everest" was rewarding for our staff. Lots of smiles, laughs, and good times. Oh yeah and I bet lots of sore legs tomorrow!
We just ate a great lunch, and will relax for a bit before we hike down into Bingham Falls for swimming and to learn about the benefits of cold water submersion and how it can help our muscles recover faster. I am sure we will need it, I know I am looking forward to it.
We are rocking and rolling this week, having a blast and learning so much.
Thanks,
-M
