Matt Maloney led this morning's session on skates. For those of you new to this blog, Matt has been coaching skiing since he graduated college seven years ago. Two years ago I was fortunate enough to have him coach with me at Colby, and last year he was a ski technician with the US Ski Team, working with the Europa Cup Men's Team.
After a lengthy warm up (camp was rewarded for a quiet night with a little more sleep), Matt set SL, GS, and SG courses for the kids to work through. Coaches were spread out, consistently offering suggestions and immediately
getting results. Skating is one of those things that people dont do very often, so the improvement after 2 weeks for most has been phenomenal. Linking the positions and movements to skiing is simple in our structure, and the progression to full courses was a very rewarding endeavor.
We did get a quick downpour, where we all hid under the tent for a few minutes. Once it stopped, and it was deemed safe to return skating, the kids didnt want to stop. Shout out to Hugh, Claire, PJ, Cassie, Maddy, Bella, Maggie, and Sebastian. We basically had to take their skates off of them because they didnt want to end.
Hopefully the rain holds off for this afternoon.
Thanks, Danny
