Morning Session on Skates

With chances of showers all morning we were a bit concerned last night about the safety of the parking lot this morning for skating. As we sat down for breakfast the clouds began to burn off and the sun poked through.

We were greeted with a slightly wet parking lot but the combination of the sun and breeze dried up the pavement by the time we were ready to be on skates. Danny led this morning's session which built on our skate session Monday. During warmup, we touched back on basic athletic stance and body position. Once on skates, we refocused on applying those positions to our skating. The counselors did a great job demonstrating and coaching everyone to be their best. The campers jumped over gates on the ground, then progressed to hurdles of different heights. We spent a good amount of time on body position while turning.

We ended the session with the annual SL challenge, which was a blast! Upon return to the Round Hearth we enjoyed another amazing lunch and were greeted by Jerry Murphy of Swix. Jerry has been coming to camp every year for a long time. He has a passion for skiing and young athletes and works with Swix on educating them on proper care of their skis. The sessions are always great, and the kids once again were engaged and asked some awesome questions. Things are running smoothly, the kids are working hard and having fun.

It is important to mention too that all of these great blog posts, coaches, and guests have been the hard work and vision of Danny over the last 8 years. The quality of the staff speaks so strongly for his reputation and passion for the sport of ski racing. I want to take a second to thank him as well for letting me be part of something this special, and giving me the freedom to bring so many of my ideas to the table. A great mentor, coach, friend, and father. Thanks so much Danny from all of us!
